Starting from Breanlee free public car park via the concret road we reach Lough Eighter in the first half an hour. At this waypoint we could choose to do the route clock or anti-clockwise and return to this point in the way down.
Today the weather is excellent, so we go via the ridge to Skregmore at 851m first. Then Beenkeragh summit 1010 metres high with awesome view. The next 30 minutes is time to enjoy scrambling on Beenkeragh Ridge, a real alpine traverse which requires some extra concentration on our steps. From the top of O’Shea’s Gully 20 minutes more to get on top of Carrauntoohil at 1039 metres high. No rush, we have plenty of time for lunch break. The return way via Caher at 1,001 metres, is a terrific walk and safe terrain in case of bad weather, it will take about 2.5 hours to get back to Lough Eighter. Still 30 minutes more to finish probably the best alpine type walk in Ireland.
