One of the main priorities of KMH is to promote the enjoyment of walking, safely and responsibly, in the mountains of South West Ireland.

Unpredictable Atlantic weather, complex terrain and other challenges are all part of the hill walking experience in this wonderful environment.

The sheer beauty of the mountain ranges of the Dingle, Iveragh and Beara Peninsulas cannot be fully appreciated without the help and leadership of a friendly, experienced mountain guide.

Cesar Lopez is a Spanish mountain guide, based in Killarney.  As an experienced professional, Cesar will manage the itineraries and spectacular mountain routes of your walk very carefully.

Besides being your Mountain Leader throughout your walk with KMH, Cesar if you wish will also organise your accommodation and transport as well as recommending post-walk entertainment and additional activities.

The Mindful Hiking concept which has evolved from Cesar’s experience when walking in this spectacular landscape, encourages his fellow walkers to enjoy, love and respect the natural environment and leave no trace, save for their happy memories.

Weather, time of the year, ground conditions, terrain, distance, ascent, time, pace, your fitness level, how you feel that day, and the group’s ability, will determine the real grade of the walk. All walks can be adapted to take account of these factors.

Killarney Mindful Hiking Reviews

Jan N. from Canada May 2019 Walk: TOMIES WOOD

“This was my first trip to Ireland and at home I like to hike. It was very nice to find this experience on Airbnb. I think it will appeal to outdoor lovers. Cesar was very helpful in answering all my questions before the hike and during it as well. He was very conscious of my abilities and never made me feel rushed. He seemed genuinely concerned that I had a great experience. It was easy to tell that leading a hike for him was not like work, but pleasure. Cesar even took several photos of me which I really appreciate as I will have a lasting memory of the hike. This hike was good value for the cost.”

I had a beautiful hike today on the mountains of Kerry. Our guide/leader was Cesar, who guided a group of 19 up a part of the mountain that is seldom trod. We set of from the Gap of Dunloe and traversed east. We ascended Shehy from the south and had lunch on the "rocks" there. Then onto Purple Mountain and descended back down to the Gap by the little lake of Glas Lough. There were fantastic views, great comradery and a feel good factor among the group, that was safely lead by Cesar. Thank you Cesar.

Most recently walked Bennaunmore (Co Kerry), guided by Cesar on 7th March 2019. Cesar is an excellent guide having an in depth knowledge of the area. I would recommend KMH for both individual and group outings at any level. Cesar is very good at tailor making walks to fit all ability levels. I have also been on 3 trips organised by Cesar to Alicante in Spain, where again the walking and guiding have been of the highest standard. Additionally I was very impressed by the logistical organisation, airport transfers, hotels etc on my Spanish trips. Sharon C (Near Macroom)

Hi, my name is Margaret and I’m both a regular walker on many of Cesar’s walks and I’m also a pupil. Cesar is a brilliant teacher, his teaching is done on the mountains, his navigation lessons are well thought out and well taught. I’m confident that after a lesson or exercise he’s taught, I’ve actually picked it up. As a walk leader I’ve the upmost confidence in his skills to lead any type of walk safely in any type of terrain and in any of our very diverse weather conditions, all of which can occur on any day on our Irish mountains.

Walking with Cesar has led me to new truly beautiful places because as a Hill walker for years I thought I’d seen it all. I hope to enjoy many more years of walking and discovering new areas to explore.

Thanks Cesar for helping me explore different parts of my beautiful country.

“Cesar took us to the top of Irelands highest mountain. Not only was it a huge personal achievement and a bucket list item but Cesar made it possible in a careful, considerate and friendly fashion. I was not the fittest person and found it a serious challenge but he took great care of me and I would not have completed it without him."
